FAQ Opener
  • What should I bring with me?
We encourage each of our charter guests to bring their favorite food, snacks, and beverages, a camera to capture great memories, and a cooler to store their catch.
  • What should I wear?
We recommend wearing soft-soled shoes and layered clothing. Bringing along a warm jacket, sunglasses, and a hat can make your trip more comfortable. In summer months, sun screen can be a good idea.
  • When does your season begin?
The beginning and end of the season is largely determined by the weather. Our typical season runs from mid-April through October.
  • Will you process my catch?
Yes! Please bring a cooler. We’ll clean and package your catch for you when we return to the harbor. We provide this service, along with ice for your cooler, at no additional charge.
  • What if the weather is bad?
We will not take any chances with your safety. Cancellation due to weather conditions are at the sole discretion of the Captain. If your trip is cancelled due to weather, your charter fee will be refunded in full or you may reschedule for another day (based on availability.)
  • What if it's raining?
Rain is always a possibility and we do fish in the rain provided that it isn’t too heavy and there is no thunder and lightning. Your comfort is a priority and we let you decide whether you want to fish in the rain. We encourage our customers to bring appropriate rain gear with them.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
Customer satisfaction is of the utmost importance to us. Although we strive to make your charter a memorable day, we will not take any chances with your safety. Cancellations due to weather conditions are the Captain’s decision. In case of a cancellation due to weather, your deposit will be refunded, or another date will be scheduled. 48-hour cancellation notice is required.
  • What types of fish can we catch?
We typically target Coho and Chinook salmon, Steelhead, and Lake trout.
  • Do I need a fishing license?
Yes. A valid fishing license is required for anyone handling fishing equipment, tackle, and fish.
  • Where can I purchase a fishing license?
You can purchase your license online through the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) website at https://www.michigan.gov/dnr/things-to-do/fishing/license-info, or at any authorized license vendor, such as bait shops, sporting goods stores, and some grocery stores.
  • How many people can I bring?
The JJ can accommodate up to six fisherman. With advanced notice we can provide additional boats for larger groups. Please call us for information on booking a group of more than six.
  • Are alcoholic beverages permitted on the boat?
Yes, alcohol is permitted onboard. We ask our guests to always drink responsibly and obey all safety regulations.
  • Is smoking permitted on the boat?
Smoking is permitted on the open aft deck of The JJ.
  • I don't want to book online. Can I call to book?
Our online booking system shows an up-to-the-minute availability calendar and is the fastest and easiest way to book your charter.
  • Do you sell gift certificates?
Yes. Please call us for complete details.
